A White Hot Summer (with color)

Sister and brother team Vanessa & George Sauma opened their gem of a store in the heart of the South Miami shopping and restaurant district almost four years ago. Vanessa, a professed fashion “junkie,” started working in (and fell in love with) the fashion retail business at a very young age. Upon meeting her you can instantly sense that she is a very laid back, trend on, fashion enthusiast.

In the late 2000s, after becoming immersed in different facets of the fashion business, she decided (with the gentle persuasion of George) that they should venture out on their own. Growing up in the Pinecrest/South Miami area, the decision as to where the Saumas would showcase their own store was a no brainer. “Her girl,” the customer also known as “the OHM Doll,” ranges from 13-50 years old, and shares Vanessa’s great sense of style.

This season at Ohm Vanessa says it’s all about the “White Hot Summer,” but with flair. “Granted, we’re expected to wear white in the summer,” she says, “but we are pushing the limits! From shoes to bikinis to the bag, everything is white!” But to style with those whites Vanessa will display a rainbow of brights throughout the store for some of the more key summer pieces. Kimonos, crop tops and rompers will be shown in all colors and prints, and will pair perfectly with denim, especially the boyfriend jean or cut off shorts. They’ll also function as cover-ups for the array of bikinis the store carries.

When asked what sets Ohm Boutique apart from the rest, Vanessa believes it’s the store’s vibe, the customer service, and the fact that “her girl” can walk in and buy an entire outfit from head to toe at a friendly price point. “If you walk into the store in the middle of summer you will find all your summer essential needs, from bikinis to cover ups, the sandals that match ever so perfectly, jewelry, and a perfect fedora and tote to go along,” says Vanessa. “I have literally packed a customer’s bag at the store for her last minute weekend trip to the Bahamas.”

At Ohm Boutique they subscribe to the idea that customers should leave happy, with no buyers’ remorse. “It’s not about the sale. It’s about the person finding what they want and us doing whatever we can to help,” says Vanessa. “Most of our ‘customers’ have turned into dear friends and we like to keep it that way.”
