Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K

THE EVENT  Presented by Ultimate Software, the May 4 Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K starts at Huizenga Park, 32 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33301, at 7:30 a.m. and will take place along Fort Lauderdale’s Riverwalk. Musical guest Ciara Rae will sing the national anthem; former WTVJ-NBC 6 anchor Tony Segreto will once again emcee the event. Special guests include honorary event chairperson Susan Israel and her husband Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler and Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca. Speakers will include Heather Geronemus, Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale chairperson; Sheriff Israel, Mayor Seiler and Commissioner LaMarca.. After the last runner and walker crosses the finish line and awards are presented to the top performers, participants will enjoy free refreshments, a victims’ tribute area, Kid Zone with bounce houses, and a health and safety expo.

THE CAUSE  Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is the nation’s largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking. MADD also supports drunk and drugged driving victims and survivors at no charge, serving one person every nine minutes through local MADD victim advocates and at 1-877-MADD-HELP. Since it was established in 2011, Walk Like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K has raised more than $250,000 to date for MADD Broward & Palm Beach. All event proceeds benefit MADD Broward & Palm Beach’s community education, victim support services and youth programs.
