As the City of Coconut Creek enters a new budget year on October 1, I am pleased to share a small snapshot of what to look forward to during the exciting year ahead!

In a continuing effort to improve public safety and reduce response times for medical and fire emergencies, we will be building a new fire station in the south area of the city at the SE corner of Lyons Road and Coconut Creek Parkway, just east of the Community Center. A bid to construct the new station will soon be awarded with construction expected to begin later this year and completed during the latter part of 2015. Our current fire station in the north area of the city will also receive internal renovations. Additionally, the need for a centrally located fire station has been determined with an appropriate site selected during the upcoming year.

Many of our parks will see improvements while renovations continue at the Recreation Center and the Community Center. Windmill Park, which includes the city’s dog park, will be expanded to include the former Johns’ property fronting NW 45th Avenue in South Creek. Enhancements throughout the Park are planned to include additional parking, restroom upgrades, resurfacing of basketball courts and new exercise stations.

Completion of landscaping in our Lyons Road medians throughout the city and our Education Corridor along Coconut Creek Parkway will beautify our city even more and I am grateful to our residents and visitors, as well as our staff, for their patience during these projects. We have been very fortunate to receive Federal and State grants during the past few years to undertake these enhancements to our city. New State grants will help us with water and sewer infrastructure improvements now in the pipeline. Grants from Broward County and the South Florida Water Management District are helping with our plans to extend reclaimed water lines.

Sincere thanks to my City Commission colleagues, City Manager Mary Blasi, Finance Director Karen Brooks, all of the Department Directors, and the entire Coconut Creek employee family for their dedication to service excellence, ongoing quality improvement and fiscal accountability. We all value input from our residents and guests in a continuing effort to make Coconut Creek an award-winning city you are proud to live, work, play and visit!
