Palm Beach County Food Bank Seeks Volunteers for “Day of 200,000 Meals” to Support Hungry Neighbors

The event will honor Hunger Action Month in September.

On Hunger Action Day, Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Palm Beach County Food Bank (PBCFB) is organizing its “Day of 200,000 Meals” in collaboration with the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and catering by Lessing’s Hospitality Group. This event is being held during Hunger Action Month, and dedicated volunteers will be packaging meals to help support one in nine hungry residents in Palm Beach County.

“We are so grateful to our partners at the Kravis Center for allowing us to host this event,” says Jamie Kendall, PBCFB CEO. “Our community-wide events always leave us in awe of the kind-spirited volunteers and sponsors that exist in all corners of Palm Beach County. It’ll be exciting to see the extraordinary impact that will come out of this day thanks to the generosity of our community.”

The packaged pasta meals can feed a family of up to six people and will be distributed to over 200 local community partners of the Food Bank. There are three available shifts for volunteers between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Gimelstob Ballroom in the Cohen Pavilion at the Kravis Center. Volunteering is free and participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt. Available volunteer shifts include:

·         9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

·         12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

·         3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“We are honored to serve as the presenting sponsor for a Day of 200,000 Meals and act as a central hub for compassionate and community-minded individuals to come together,” says Diane Quinn, CEO of the Kravis Center. “Our mission extends beyond enriching lives through the arts; it encompasses a commitment to supporting our neighbors by providing essential resources and addressing their fundamental needs.”

The PBCFB acquires food from various sources such as grocery stores, farmers, food distributors and wholesalers to supply over 200 local community partners, including food pantries, soup kitchens and residential housing programs. Their programs serve families, children, and seniors, connecting those in need with available benefits and resources. Partner agencies then distribute the received products, including culturally appropriate food and essential items like household products, ensuring that families can access food when needed.

The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, situated at 701 Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach, FL, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing outstanding cultural experiences that entertain, inspire and educate the entire community.
