Mitch’s Downtown Bagel Cafe Expands to Hallandale Beach

The eatery offers a modern twist on the traditional New York deli.

The beloved family-run deli, Mitch’s Downtown Bagel Cafe, has unveiled the opening of its third brick-and-mortar location. The new restaurant will open this month in Hallandale Beach’s Atlantic Village at 601 N. Federal Highway, Suite 112. The menu combines old-time favorites with fresh ingredients and trendier items.

Over 30 years ago, Mitch Shidlofsky held a dream that eventually led to the establishment of MMitch’s Downtown Bagel Cafe. Mitch was born and raised in Woodmere, Long Island, and in 1993, he moved to Florida with his family, which was expanding with one child on the way. He chose the deli business as it allowed him to be an active part of his family’s life. Mitch’s journey involved buying and selling existing delis until he finally established his own brand in 2002.

Since then, the family-owned business has expanded to six stores from Palm Beach to Miami Dade. One of the original stores, Mitch’s Westside Bagels, is still operational in Weston. In 2020, Adam Shidlofsky, son of Mitch, joined the business after working as an accountant in New York City. The pandemic brought father and son closer, and during this time, Adam expressed his interest in joining the family business despite Mitch’s initial reluctance due to the demanding nature of the restaurant industry.

“One day during the pandemic, my dad and I were sitting on the balcony and I was telling him how badly I wanted to be a part of this,” Adam says. “I had so many ideas and felt like I could bring so much to the table by combining both of our strengths,” shares Adam Shidlofsky, Co-Founder of Mitch’s. “That night, I finally got to him, and he said fine, if you want to do this, go bake bagels at 4 a.m., and the rest is history.”

The restaurant boasts a menu showcasing recipes made from scratch, employing only the finest quality ingredients and techniques refined over three decades. It offers an extensive range of breakfast and lunch options, which include freshly baked bagels, omelets, delectable French toast, and generously proportioned sandwiches. Guests can also indulge in green salads, classic deli favorites like corned beef sandwiches, and creative delights like bagels infused with truffle oil.

The over 1,600 square feet restaurant with 46 seats provides indoor and outdoor seating in a contemporary and welcoming atmosphere that reflects the modern interpretation of the traditional New York Deli that Mitch’s is renowned for. The design features smooth black tiles and white furniture, lively greenery and the iconic “Bagels Don’t Count as Carbs” neon sign mounted on a grass wall.

Mitch’s Downtown Bagel Cafe in Hallandale will be open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
