Lucky Shuck Hosts Third Annual Oyster Eating Contest to Celebrate National Oyster Day

The challenge is to consume more than 103 oysters in just 90 seconds.

Lucky Shuck Oyster Bar & Taphouse is gearing up for its third annual South Florida’s Shucking Best Oyster Eating Contest, where participants can flex their mussels and compete in the tide-to-table competition. The event will take place on Friday, Aug. 4, in honor of National Oyster Day on Aug. 5.

Each oyster-eating participant receives 90 seconds to consume as many oysters as possible. They can choose to season them or gulp them down raw. The competition begins with a tray of 36 oysters and any participant who finishes their tray can request additional oysters. To be counted, the oysters must be swallowed and remain down. In a tie, the winner will be determined by the first person who finishes an additional 12 oysters.

The oyster eating contest at Charlie & Joe’s at Love Street rewards the top spot with a prize. The first-place winner receives a $150 cash prize and a $200 gift card that can be used at any of the three on-site venues. In addition to the rewards, the winner also earns some serious bragging rights. However, the competition doesn’t stop there. The second-place winner earns a $150 gift card, while the third place receives a $100 gift card.

South Florida’s Shucking Best Oyster Eating Contest is limited to 25 participants who must register by visiting luckyshuckjupiter.com. A $20 registration fee will benefit the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum. Sign-in begins at 4:30 p.m., with the competition starting at 5:30 p.m.

Throughout August, Lucky Shuck offers Blue Point oysters at “2 bucks a shuck.” For more information, visit luckyshuckjupiter.com or call 561-532-3280.
