How Can You Not Lovvett?

A husband-and-wife team in Coral Gables have local restaurants buzzing over an idea that reduces food waste and drives business revenue—all while delivering savings to consumers.

Rafael and Monica Garrido are the brains behind Lovvett, an app that addresses the fact that 30% to 40% of all food produced in the U.S. is thrown away, with restaurants being among the main culprits. The idea is simple: Lovvett gives local restaurants a platform to sell its surplus items, food that otherwise would go to waste, at discounted prices—in some cases, 50% off. At press time, the app had more than 6,000 subscribers—with more than 150 restaurants participating.

Among the deals foodie enthusiasts can find in Miami: Clutch Burger (offering a vintage burger, fries and soda for $9.99 instead of $20); IT Trattoria (margherita pizza and soda for $8.99 instead of $14.95); and Aromas del Peru (a whole chicken, fries, salad and drink for $19; retail value $27).

The Garridos are looking to add delivery services—and expand the concept nationwide. To learn more, visit lovvett.com.
