HANDY distributes donation to students

One of Fort Lauderdale’s most well-known nonprofits is continuing to help young people in the community thanks to the Moss Foundation.

HANDY (Helping Abused Neglected Disadvantaged Youth) received a $30,000 donation from the Moss Foundation. HANDY distributed the funds to youth who were honored at the Moss 2021 Perseverance Awards virtual ceremony earlier this week.

The scholarships were awarded to 10 top performing HANDY youth, dedicated high school and college students who have overcome immense obstacles in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The scholarships will assist each youth with additional needs in school, at home and in their day-to-day lives. The students also received an iPad.

“We have seen remarkable acts of survival and triumph in the face of immeasurable odds and our youth have overcome obstacles this year that would have made the bravest amongst us crumble,” said Kirk Brown, HANDY CEO (pictured above). “The Moss Foundation has continued to display their dedication to our youth and families by recognizing how our youth have never given up, no matter what. It’s the HANDY Way and it’s the Moss Way.”

Throughout the pandemic, HANDY continued its mission to provide life skills, education and a supportive community for Broward County children in foster and relative/nonrelative care associated with the child dependency system.

“The Moss Foundation is committed to helping build better lives for young people in our community,” said Chad Moss, former vice chairman of HANDY and president of the Moss Foundation, a 501(C)3 organization dedicated to assisting non-profit organizations and communities throughout the nation. “The Moss Foundation is about giving back to the community and we’re pleased to recognize the perseverance of so many youth in our community.”
