Great Staycations: Faena

Faena

3201 Collins Ave., Miami Beach

About the resort: Originally known as the Saxony Hotel, the brainchild of builder George Sax and designer Roy France drew the likes of Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe during the 1950s and ’60s. Argentine hotelier Alan Faena recaptured and reimagined that glamour, infusing his namesake resort with art deco cool, hardwood flooring, signature red velvet, dramatic works of art, and a host of colorful and creatively rendered spaces. The hotel includes 169 rooms and 13 penthouse residences on the top two floors; the signature suite offerings start at nearly 1,500 square feet and top out at 14,500 square feet (the four-bedroom penthouse suite). The uber-hip vibe extends to the restaurant/bar scenes, highlighted by Los Fuegos by Francis Mallman (open-fire cooking from the Argentine grill master) and Pao by Paul Qui (modern Asian cuisine with ocean views).

Isn’t that special: Faena’s Suite Dreams package promises up to 30% off the best available rate on a premier oceanfront one-bedroom suite (or above), daily complimentary breakfast for two at Veranda (overlooking the pool), $100 resort credit, and a complimentary spa treatment at Tierra Santa Healing House (if it’s open during your stay).
