Frost Science Hosts Event Highlighting Guinness World-Record Flight

Captain Barrington Irving will discuss his historic achievement.

Captain Barrington Irving, who at 23 years old became the youngest person ever and first black pilot to fly solo around the world, will be presenting A Journey From Guinness World-Record Aviation to Transformative STEM Education during the LIVE@Frost Science event on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Captain Irving made history in his self-constructed plane, Inspiration, made out of donated airplane parts. This experience inspired him to create his nonprofit organization, Experience Aviation, and develop The Flying Classroom curriculum, which aims to shape students’ future.

During the upcoming free event, Captain Irving will be the featured speaker and discuss his innovative and creative approach to STEM education. The program is scheduled to take place inside the Frost Planetarium, with admission to LIVE@Frost Science being complimentary. Light refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase before the event at Food@Science. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the program will start promptly at 7 p.m. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission to the event does not include access to the museum exhibitions, which close at 6 p.m. Onsite parking will be available in the museum garage for a flat rate of $8 starting at 6 p.m., and member parking discounts will not apply.
