Local community Jewish centers present the Jewish Book Fest

Several of South Floridas Jewish community centers are joining forces to host a virtual version of Florida JCCs Jewish Book Fest, presenting more than 25 events with Jewish authors, books and topics of interest.

“The Levis JCC Sandler Center is excited to partner with our fellow JCCs to bring our community this enriching and engaging virtual program,” said Stephanie Owitz, director of arts, culture and learning at the Sandler Center, which is partnering with Miami’s Alper JCC, North Miami Beach’s Michael-Ann Russell JCC, Davie’s David Posnack JCC, Miami Beach JCC and The Roth Family JCC of Greater Orlando. “While we eagerly await welcoming our patrons back into our ‘home,’ we are encouraged by the opportunities that this virtual book festival presents our community.”

A few highlights of the festival include

  • An interview of Thane Rosenbaum (pictured above) by former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. The child of Holocaust survivors, Rosenbaum grew up in Miami Beach and is an essayist, novelist and law professor. He discusses his book Saving Free Speech…From Itself, in which he argues that certain limits on free speech are not only constitutional but also are essential for the maintenance of civil society. Oct. 8
  • Lawyer and MSNBC legal analyst Jill Wine-Banks discusses her book, The Watergate Girl: My Fight for Truth and Justice Against a Criminal President, covering her time as the only female prosecutor during the Watergate scandal. Oct. 11
  • A discussion with #1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer and illustrator Christopher Eliopolos on their I Am biography series, which focuses on the traits of history’s heroes. Oct. 25

Book lovers can also look forward to Miami Book Fair’s presentation of a Florida Author Spotlight, a fiction forum, Jewish stories from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jonathan Kaufman and more.

Jewish Book Fest runs Oct. 8-25. Individual tickets are $10 per program. A Book Fest Fast Pass offers all special events and virtual author meet-and-greets for $75. Click here to purchase tickets.
