Five Things to Know About: Bocas House

The Business of Food: Co-founders Levin de Grazia and César González are Venezuelan businessmen; de Grazia’s family has more than 30 years of experience managing restaurants, and González is a cook who started posting his creations on his Instagram account, @co_cinero, which has garnered more than 1.5 million followers.

Options Galore: Among the most-requested dishes are the ceviches, Tomahawk (ribeye with grilled peppers, chorizo, blood sausages, asparagus, coleslaw, chimichurri sauce, guasacaca and two sides), and macaroni and cheese (with yellow pepper, bacon powder and crunchy onions). Each dish has a recommended wine, but the sangria is a favorite.

Come with a Sweet Toot: For dessert, there is the newly introduced Golden milkshake—a Nutella shake (pictured, left) topped with a Nutella brownie and golden bombón filled with Nutella brigadeiro and gold dust. The Nostalgia milkshake, a new flavor based on a quesillo, a traditional Venezuelan dessert, is in the works specifically for the Weston location.

Quick Expansion: The owners describe their food as Latin American fusion, with a menu of comfort foods made with exotic flavors and combinations. They opened the first Bocas House in Doral in April 2016 before expanding to Weston in July and Coral Gables in August.

Insta-Famous: Bocas House has more than 237,000 Instagram followers. Many are food- and dessert-lovers who live elsewhere but enjoy the photography, but the account is flooded with locals as well. The owners say diners hold up their phones to show servers what they want to order.
