AN EVENING OF HOPE

THE EVENT

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), the only national nonprofit voluntary health organization dedicated to the fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is pleased to announce their annual “An Evening of Hope” gala for Nov. 16. Craig Konhauzer will serve as chair of this event.

The gala, one of the must-attend soirees of the season, will kick-off with an elegant cocktail reception where guests will take a culinary trip around the world with tasty tidbits and delicious libations from restaurants Johnson & Wales University, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, Latitudes Restaurant and the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. Guests will then head to the main ballroom for a seated dinner and the ultimate casino set up where they can try their luck at a number of casino tables. Guests can also bid on fabulous items in the live and silent auctions that feature fine jewelry and luxurious vacation packages.

The highlight of the evening will be the annual announcement of the 2013 Hope Award recipient. The Hope Award is an honor bestowed upon an individual or family who gives hope and inspiration to those living with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and other digestive diseases. Funds raised support research, educational programs, summer camps, support groups, and more for children and adults affected by Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

THE CAUSE

Some 1.4 million American adults and children suffer from Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, including as many as 150,000 under the age of 18. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are painful, medically incurable illnesses that attack the digestive system. Many patients require hospitalization and surgery. These illnesses can cause severe complications, including colon cancer in patients with long-term disease.

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America’s mission is to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. The Foundation ranks third among leading health non-profits in the percentage of expense devoted to research, with more than 82 cents of every dollar the Foundation spends going to mission-critical programs.
