Driven to Good: South Florida charity drives

  • Gulfstream Park Village is helping families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic by hosting a food drive for Pantry of Broward, a non-profit organization that serves seniors in need on low, fixed incomes and grandparents raising their grandchildren. Items can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Gulfstream Park Village office (next to Pastry is Art) or near the South Valet drop off. Drive runs through Aug. 2.

  • Boca-based nonprofit Sweet Dream Makers recently launched a Back to School Campaign with Hands On Tzedakah to purchase beds for students in Palm Beach County who are sleeping on floors, couches, or sharing small mattresses with siblings or caregivers (featured image above). The third annual campaign comes at a time when new beds and bedding are more in need than ever: the organization reports that requests for assistance from referring social service agencies have increased more than 51% over prior years since the beginning of 2020. This year, Hands On Tzedakah is matching individual donations of $250—the cost of a twin bed—to Sweet Dream Makers through Aug. 31.

  • The Little Lighthouse Foundation recently launched a fundraising campaign for its Back to School 2020 program, benefiting LLF partner facilities such as schools, shelters and youth organizations. Through the campaign, the Miami-based nonprofit organization, which assists underserved children and their families throughout South Florida, is purchasing school supplies as well as PPE, cleaning supplies and non-perishable snacks and food. The fundraiser includes LLF’s Kids 4 Kids initiative through which student volunteers create their own fundraising pages, take pledges from family and friends and read as many pages as they can in a week. LLF will deliver all supplies to its partner facilities with the help of LED Trucks on Aug. 28. To donate, click here.
