YMCA of South Florida to Host Veteran’s Day Breakfast in Broward

The YMCA of South Florida is gearing up for its annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Nov. 11 to honor local veterans. The breakfast, in partnership with the City of Weston, features U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Commander, Harvard University graduate and six-time Paralympic Medalist Dan Cnossen as the keynote speaker. Title and presenting sponsorship opportunities are available for the celebration, which lasts from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Bonaventure Town Center Ballroom, 16690 Saddle Club Road in Weston.

During the presentation, Cnossen will share stories of how leadership, motivation and mental strength helped him fight for his life and guided him through many challenges after losing his legs during a military mission in Afghanistan over a decade ago.

“We are so privileged to have Lt. Commander Cnossen in South Florida with us on Veteran’s Day to share his inspiring story,” YMCA of South Florida president and CEO Sheryl A. Woods says. “The Y has always taken pride in supporting our veterans year-round here in South Florida for many decades, and we’re honored to maintain that tradition year after year by providing services to them and their families to help manage the unique challenges they face every day.”

According to data from the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, out of the 19.1 million veterans in the U.S., almost 10% or 1.4 million live in Florida, making it the third largest veteran population in the nation. Families can spend time together through the YMCA’s military membership, meet other military families, and enjoy its membership offerings. Military benefits include opportunities for paid employment and as volunteers, facility usage for training purposes, health and wellness seminars and cross promotions of shared resources.

Tickets to the Veterans Day Breakfast are $100 per person or starting at $2,500 per table. For more information, visit Ymcasouthflorida.org/event/veterans-day-event/ or contact Aimee Fretwell at or 954-334-9622, ext. 1045
