Parker Playhouse Upgrades

The $30 million renovation taking place at Parker Playhouse is on track to revitalize a facility that opened its doors in 1967. Construction, scheduled for completion in 2021, has been moving along, even amid the pandemic.

Expect a reimagined main lobby experience that incorporates the original façade of the building and other original architectural features. Also expect new, more comfortable seats—but no change to the sea of red continental configuration that people identify with the theater.

Guests also will enjoy private donor and premium lounges and a new bar area. The Parker also is upgrading behind-the-scenes systems (rigging, sound, light) with state-of-the-art technology.

“There won’t be anything that hasn’t been retouched or painted or replaced; everything will be updated,” Kelley Shanley, CEO at Broward Center for the Performing Arts (which manages the Parker) told Lifestyle last year. “We want to make it feel fresh and ready for its next 50 years.”

General contractor on the project is RCC Gulf, a joint venture between RCC Associates and Gulf Building. The architectural firm is Wilson Butler Architects, and the interior design firm is ID & Design International.
